Smokin' Guns is stand alone mod of Quake 3 Arena set in the Wild West. It started its life under the name of Western Quake. It was originally developed by a team known as Iron Claw Interactive. They released WQ3 beta 2.0 in 2003, after which development all but ceased. In May 2005, development of Western Quake was taken over of by a bunch of cowboys calling themselves The Smokin' Guns with the blessings of the former team. Smokin' Guns is intended to be a semi-realistic simulation of the "Old West's" great atmosphere was developed on Id Software's Quake III Arena Engine.

-Takes place in WWII against Nazi's fully dabbling in the occult
-BJ (the hero) will also make use of supernatural powers.
-Game gives you a city in which the game takes place. Missions and quests take you through different parts. As you complete quests, more of the city opens up. Kind of a non-linear path.
-Set piece and randomly generated activity block your path.
-There is an AI resistance force that will assist you during the game at times.
-You will also enter "The Shroud", an alternate reality version of the city. A dimension in which the Nazi's are drawing power from.

Xreal

XreaL will be a non-commercial multiplayer only first person shooter based on a heavily modified Quake 3 Arena engine (id Tech 3). The aim is to push the rendering technology until it can be compared with current commercial titles and then to produce a playable Total Conversion. Quake 3 Arena's gameplay will be only slightly modified. The simpleness of the original game will stay but the game media will be replaced completely with high quality assets that match the new engine's technology.
